Today, we present the breathtaking setting of our Lake Como estate.
Castello del Lago, or Castle of the Lake, is a large family compound situated on the shores of Lake Como. Lake Como is a glorious area in Northern Italy where your vacation will be infused with the lake’s history, natural beauty and opulence, and perhaps a Clooney sighting. It is hard to imagine a more impressive setting than a castle overlooking the majestic mountains and medieval hillside towns of Lake Como.
To give you some background, the Castello is historically significant and served as a medieval signal tower and as an armory since the 16th century. The interior and outdoor areas have been transformed into a modern residence by a scion of Italian furniture and decor. The Castello’s tiered mediterranean gardens and panoramic lake views create a stunning setting for any gathering. One can explore the vast private gardens where scenic pathways wind through palm trees to secluded lookouts and olive orchards – every view more stunning than the last. Gatherings for dinners on the Castello roof terrace, or prosecco and olives around the pool is a wonderful way to share precious time together in this idyllic Italian setting.
The whole estate includes the main castle, two guest villas, a pool, private lakeside boat slip and terrace, olive orchards, and rambling gardens. The main castle has 3 bedrooms, a rooftop terrace with sweeping lake views and interior finishes reminiscent of a Bond film including gothic windows, marble, leather, ivory, bronze and exotic woods.
The two guest houses each have their own unique character. The Chalet is a 3 bedroom stucco retreat with a vintage retro charm that makes you crave martinis and olives. The Limonaia is an Italian Country style villetta with 2 bedrooms and a very sunny open living space with wall-to-wall mullioned windows. The three homes with eight bedrooms can hold up to 16 family and friends. Your group can be as private or as social as you like given that the homes are separated by large gardens. Check out our destination page for more photos additional details about what the castle estate offers.
