Newport Beach offers a ferry to the Balboa Fun Zone on Balboa Island. How much more kid-friendly can that sound? With G2Gs 5-bedroom abode just steps from the Pacific’s golden sands plus water views from decks on two levels, there’s room for kids to sprawl and play galore, participating in traditional hiking, biking and every imaginable water sport. From the name, “Fashion Island” may not elicit immediate smiles from your kids, but the shopping paradise is filled with water fountains and park areas for kids to run and play in. From one of the world’s largest small yacht harbors, you can ferry to Balboa which boasts that Fun Zone, but also boardwalk and beach fun. And a day trip to L.A.’s famous Hollywood studios and theme parks is certainly an option from Newport, which is just 44 miles away.
Chicago, or the Windy City, is located on Lake Michigan in Illinois. This city is home to several impressive skyscrapers, such as the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), and the Tribune Tower. Chicago is one of the largest cities in the U.S., and it’s got the entertainment you’d expect of such a large city. There are a million fun activities to do with kids, making this a very kid-friendly travel destination. Don’t forget to have some of Chicago’s famous deep-dish pizza while you’re there!
Activities to do with kids: Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum, Chicago Children’s Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Legoland Discovery Center, Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo & Rides, Navy Pier Centennial Wheel and Rides, JourneyMaker at The Art Institute of Chicago, Cloud Gate in Millennium Park, Grant Park, the Magnificent Mile (for some shopping), Adler Planetarium, 360 Chicago, and Tall Ship Windy.
Located in Northern Italy in the foothills of the Alps, Lake Como is a beautiful kid-friendly travel destination known for its incredible scenery, Renaissance architecture, and an abundance of celebrities. Time in Lake Como generally won’t involve much in the way of action-packed adventure (though there are nearby options in the Alps). This is Italy, so things are done at a leisurely pace. Enjoy meandering walks through villages, visit 18th century villas and their gardens, and enjoy Northern Italian cuisine. Day trips to Lugano, Switzerland or the Matterhorn are easy possibilities.
