San Francisco Vacation Rental Costs (Luxury Hotels, Apts., etc.)

Written by Michele Richardson on July 14, 2015

San Francisco, California is one of the most popular places to vacation in all of the U.S.  At G2G, we’ve seen an incredible demand for the “city by the bay,” and we are regularly asked about what it costs to stay in luxury hotels or rent apartments there.  So, this article will focus on San Francisco vacation rentals and will they will cost you.

San Francisco Hotel Rates

Hotels in San Francisco aren’t cheap.  In fact, it ranks as one of the highest priced cities in the U.S. in terms of hotel rates.  For example, if you want to book a single hotel room for a long weekend in October, you’ll pay between $700/night and $900/night for a five star hotel room at the Loew’s Regency, the St. Regis or the Four Seasons.  For a four star hotel, you should expect to pay between $400/night and $600/night for a 300 to 400 square foot hotel room.  Of course, you can generally find hotel rooms for less than $400/night, but they will usually be in three star or less hotels.  Even the Courtyard San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Hotel is over $410/night (with taxes and fees) for a 228 square foot hotel room.

San Francisco Apartment Rental Rates

If you’re looking to rent an apartment in San Francisco, we suggest doing your due diligence and finding something on VRBO.com or Airbnb.com (see our article on “5 VRBO Problems and How To Avoid Them”).  The real challenge with renting an apartment in San Francisco is that unless you or a trusted friend has seen the apartment first-hand, it will be very difficult to know what you are getting from photos on the website.  There are over 1,200 apartments in San Francisco listed on VRBO.com.  The views, feel of the layout, stairs, hills, parking situation and neighbors are very difficult to determine on these rental websites.  You should expect to pay around $300 per bedroom per night for a decent apartment in San Francisco.  That means that a typical 2 bedroom apartment will be around $600/night.

In summary, you should expect to pay anywhere from $400 per night to upwards of $900 per night if you want to rent a 4 to 5 star hotel room or a 1 to 3 bedroom (or larger) apartment in San Francisco.  Many of our Members are able to pay $350 to $400 per night for a 2 bedroom Penthouse apartment in the Cow Hollow area, but they have also paid to join a private club that affords them lower nightly rental rates.  If you would like more information on rental options in San Francisco, please call us at 678-506-2700 or email us at membership@g2gcollection.com.
