Sonoma Vacation Rental Costs (Healdsburg or Wine Country)

Written by Michele Richardson on June 25, 2015

Sonoma, California is one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the U.S.  At G2G, we have recently seen a rise in interest in California wine country and we are asked about Sonoma vacation rental costs to stay in a great house there.  So, in this article, we’ll look at what options exist specifically in Sonoma, from hotels and resorts to rental homes.

Sonoma Hotel Rates

Unlike Napa Valley, Sonoma has a very limited number of high end (four and five star) hotels.  The two most prominent are the Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa and the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa.  Room rates in both of these hotels will range from around $300 per night during the winter to around $600 per night during the fall peak “crush” season.  The good news is that you can have a great wine country experience in Sonoma in a nice hotel without paying the much higher Napa prices, which range from $600 per night to around $2,000 per night (for Calistoga Ranch) during crush season.

If you’re looking to rent a home or villa in Sonoma, you will probably want to go online and check out options at VRBO.com or Homeaway.com (see our article on “5 VRBO Problems and How To Avoid Them”).  You will have a wide variety of options and can certainly save money vs. staying in a 2 or 3 bedroom residence in the aforementioned hotels and resorts.  For example, you can find three bedroom residences near Healdsburg, Glen Ellen or Sonoma that are just as nice as the hotels for around $800 to $1,200/night.  Of course, you can also find three to four bedroom homes for $400 to $600 per night, but they won’t be nearly as nice or well-located as what you can get for $1,000/night.  The challenge in Sonoma is the limited supply of high end vacation homes, perhaps because, similar to Napa, there are strict regulations around which homes may be rented on a nightly basis in Sonoma.

In summary, you should expect to pay anywhere from $600 per night to $1,200 per night if you want to rent a one to three bedroom residence in Sonoma.  Many of our Members are able to pay less than $600 per night, including during “crush” season, for a three bedroom residence on a vineyard with a pool, located just minutes from Healdsburg, but they have also paid to join a private club that affords them lower nightly rental rates.  If you would like more information on rental options in Sonoma, please call us at 678-506-2700 or email us at membership@g2gcollection.com.
